Relentless rain and flash flooding have inundated parts of central Kentucky over the weekend, resulting in at least four deaths, Governor Andy Beshear announced.

"Kentucky, I have some tough news to share," the governor wrote on X Saturday. Three fatalities occurred in Madison County and one in Jackson County.

According to the Madison County Coroner, two of the deaths in Madison County—one adult male and one adult female—occurred at a residence in Richmond. The third death in Madison County was an adult male swept away in his vehicle on Tates Creek Road.

Earlier on Saturday, Governor Beshear declared a state of emergency, warning that dangerous rainfall was expected to continue until 11 p.m. He described the situation as a serious flooding event, noting that teams have already conducted multiple water rescues from vehicles and homes across the commonwealth.

This remains a developing story.
