Private equity firm KKR and South Korea's SK Inc announced on July 1 the launch of the country's largest renewable energy platform, valued at 2 trillion won ($1.3 billion). The initiative is designed to address the increasing clean-power needs of AI data centers and semiconductor plants.
The platform will integrate renewable energy assets from SK Innovation, SK ecoplant, and SK eternix, covering solar, onshore and offshore wind, and fuel cell technologies. At launch, it will have approximately 1.7 gigawatts of operational capacity, with a development pipeline expected to expand total capacity to 10 gigawatts—sufficient to power 100 large-scale 100-megawatt data centers.
KKR will initially hold management control of the platform, while SK will participate as an equity investor and may negotiate for control rights in the future. Ownership will be split with KKR holding 51% and SK Inc 49%. The integrated entity is expected to officially launch by the end of the year.
