Last month, emergency medical services (EMS) were called to Senator Mitch McConnell’s home to respond to an unconscious person who appeared to be experiencing cardiac arrest, according to a public EMS dispatch call reviewed by CBS News. The call, which came in before 9 a.m. on June 14, included a dispatcher reporting a cardiac arrest and a medic stating that CPR was in progress at McConnell's address.

The identity of the unconscious person was not confirmed during the call, and CBS News has not independently verified who the patient was. On the same day as the EMS dispatch, a spokesperson for McConnell confirmed that the Kentucky Republican was hospitalized and was "receiving excellent care," though no details were provided about the reason for admission or the hospital.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he spoke with McConnell that day and described him as sounding good. Additionally, a South Dakota Republican remarked on June 15 that McConnell was "clearly dialed into what's going on."

McConnell has a medical history that includes hospitalization in 2023 for a concussion after a fall and incidents where he appeared to freeze.
