Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has indicated that he has likely played his last match at Wimbledon after a first-round loss in the men's doubles event. Partnering with Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik, Kyrgios was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by the sixth-seeded duo Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic on Court 17.
The 31-year-old, who has faced wrist, knee, and legal challenges since his 2022 singles final loss to Novak Djokovic, reflected emotionally during the match, saying he was "looking around and taking everything in." Kyrgios stated, "I would probably say pretty confidently my last Wimbledon," adding, "It would be hard to see myself coming back here again and competing."
He described the 2022 final as one of the better memories of his tennis career but expressed doubt about returning to that level. Kyrgios also mentioned enjoying playing doubles with Bublik but noted the uncertainty involved with relying on wildcard entries for tournament participation.
During the match, after Mate Pavic executed a remarkable reflex volley to win a game, Kyrgios responded with a candid congratulation. In response to an unheard comment from a French official, Kyrgios said, "Honestly, at this point you can fine me, I honestly don't even care."
Despite the loss, Kyrgios expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at Wimbledon once more.
