President Donald Trump acknowledged on July 2, 2026, that while oil prices are rapidly declining, gas prices at the pump are not decreasing as quickly as expected ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.

"Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, but not as fast as they should be," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also announced that a retailer, dubbed the "Freedom Fuel Network," operating throughout the Northeast, is stepping up to help lower gas prices at 25 stations in the Philadelphia area. This initiative aims to assist drivers during the holiday as gas prices fluctuate amid ongoing tensions related to the Iran war.

"This Retailer is taking the lead, and others should follow," Trump added, attributing their actions to patriotism. He expressed pride in celebrating America's 250th birthday in Pennsylvania, the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence, where he also won decisively in the presidential election.

Trump concluded by saying gas prices will return to record lows seen "before our very successful 'excursion' in Iran." The post included an image, likely AI-generated, showing a gas station branded with "Freedom Fuel Network."

Earlier that week, Trump lamented that gas prices had not fallen further following a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding that paused hostilities for 60 days and largely reopened the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.

As of July 2, the national average for gas in the U.S. was $3.84 per gallon, according to AAA. West Texas Intermediate crude was trading at $67.66 per barrel, while Brent Crude stood at $70.71.
