After the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, ex-firefighter Jesus Garcia found himself in a desperate rescue mission to save his father Jose and two younger brothers. Trapped under rubble for over an hour, Jose called out to Jesus, pleading, "Don't leave me here."

Despite uncertainty and limited visibility—Jose could only see one foot and one hand of his trapped sons—Jesus remained determined. He reassured his father, saying, “Trust me: Stay calm. Keep the kids calm over there. I’m not leaving here without you.”

With the arrival of Jesus's firefighting team from La Guaira, who came to assist their old comrade, the family was finally pulled from the debris at about 3:30 pm on June 25, more than 20 hours after the earthquakes struck.

Reflecting on the moment of reunion, Jesus recalled, “When I saw them, I hugged them, gave them a kiss, and said, ‘I love you, brother.’"

The family survived the collapse with relatively minor injuries, but the rescue highlighted the dangers and emotional toll following the disaster.
