Michigan state Senate majority whip Mallory McMorrow (D) announced on July 5, 2026, that she is suspending her campaign for the United States Senate. McMorrow launched her campaign in April 2025 to succeed the retiring senator but faced low polling numbers leading to her decision.

In a video posted on social platform X, McMorrow expressed a "deep, deep sense of gratitude" and emphasized that she is "not leaving the fight," despite ending her campaign.

Her withdrawal leaves a two-way Democratic primary contest between moderate Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) and progressive Abdul El-Sayed, the former director of the Department of Health, Human and Veterans Service of Wayne County, Michigan. El-Sayed thanked McMorrow and her supporters "for the work that you did for democracy," despite their policy differences.

A recent survey indicated that 49 percent of respondents were unsure whom they would support in the primary, which is scheduled for August 4.
