Cristiano Ronaldo, the 41-year-old Portuguese football star, has once again declined to confirm whether the 2026 World Cup will be the final tournament of his career. Ahead of Portugal's last-16 match against Spain, Ronaldo stated, “I will finish when I choose,” amid widespread speculation about his future.

Playing in a record sixth World Cup, Ronaldo stressed that he intends to end his career on his own terms and will leave football with no regrets. He said, “I’m going to be perfectly honest, regardless of what happens tomorrow, Cristiano is going to be 1,000 percent leaving with a clear conscience.”

If he features against Spain, Ronaldo will make his 233rd appearance for Portugal. His international career includes memorable moments such as a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw against Spain during the 2018 World Cup group phase. Having spent nine seasons with Real Madrid, Ronaldo has a close connection to Spain.

Acknowledging Spain's strength, he remarked, “Spain is always a contender to win the Euros, the Nations League; they have already won this competition.” Despite the challenges, Ronaldo expressed his desire to enjoy the tournament and continue playing beyond this World Cup if possible.
