Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned of a likely attack ahead of his meeting with US President Donald Trump. Early on Monday morning, a Russian missile and drone attack struck Kyiv, killing at least 11 people and injuring at least 46, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration. The assault damaged more than a dozen residential buildings and marked the second large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital in less than a week.
Authorities reported that another person was killed and 10 others injured in districts surrounding Kyiv. Ukraine’s military stated that Russia fired 68 missiles and 351 drones overnight. The Kyiv Independent detailed the timeline of explosions beginning around 1:40am local time, with subsequent strikes at 2:10am and 3:15am.
This attack comes on the eve of a NATO summit, underscoring ongoing tensions in the region.
