President Donald Trump’s inquiry with FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding the red card penalty issued to Team USA player Folarin Balogun has ignited controversy in the soccer world just before the critical round of 16 match between Team USA and Belgium.

The decision drew criticism from Belgium and several figures within the soccer community, who questioned misconduct in the sport. Europe’s soccer federation described the reversal as “incomprehensible.”
