Democrats and progressives have urged Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner to end his campaign following new sexual assault allegations. Over the past several weeks, multiple women have made serious and credible accusations against Platner, leading state party leaders to withdraw their endorsement.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), who had previously defended Platner, acknowledged on social media that the allegations are "very serious and credible," emphasizing that sexual assault or violence against women is a red line. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) described the allegations as "troubling and deeply serious."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), leaders of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), called the reported allegations "incredibly disturbing," stating that violence, abuse, and sexual assault are absolutely unacceptable.

Lauren French, spokesperson for the Senate Majority PAC, said the seat remains winnable if Platner is not on the ballot but noted that strategic investment cannot continue given the expensive battleground map.

Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United, condemned Platner's conduct as fundamentally inconsistent with the standards expected from supported candidates, underscoring that no candidate or political party is exempt from accountability.

Earlier reports from Politico detailed an accusation by Maine resident Jenny Racicot, who alleged that Platner forced her to have sex with him while he was intoxicated in 2021.
