The ninth World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), scheduled from July 17 to 20 in Shanghai, will feature significant new AI product launches, including Huawei Technologies’ next-generation computing cluster. Tang Wenkan, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, announced at a press briefing that the event will host the first physical display of Huawei’s Atlas 950 SuperPoD.
Huawei initially unveiled this computing cluster last year, which is powered by 8,192 Ascend neural processing unit (NPU) cards and optimized for AI neural networks and machine learning applications.
In addition to Huawei’s showcase, the conference will debut what Tang described as “the world’s first AI agent phone,” though the developer was not named. Other highlights include MiniMax’s M3 multimodal model, an agent operating system from StepFun, a near-memory computing 3D chip from Dongfang Suanxin, as well as new humanoid robots and dexterous robotic hands.
WAIC will also explore frontier AI industry topics such as world models, open-source agents, AI coding, the token economy, and one-person companies that use AI to replace staff.
China’s AI phone and computer shipments surpassed 100 million units in 2025, with the segment expected to overtake non-AI gadgets this year, according to Wang Ruomeng, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission.
