Two Supreme Court justices, Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett, are scheduled to testify before Congress on July 14 about the Supreme Court’s annual budget request. They will appear before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, as announced by Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

The justices are also expected to testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee later that same day.

The Supreme Court is requesting $9.7 billion for its fiscal year 2027 discretionary budget. This includes $826.5 million in mandatory appropriations for judicial salaries and retirement funds. The budget request also seeks a $14.6 million increase for the Supreme Court Police to support protective activities related to the justices’ homes and families.

Additionally, the budget asks Congress for $920.9 million to fund front-line security officers at every federal courthouse nationwide, citing a rise in threats against federal judges.
