Moira Deeming, a Liberal MP in Victoria, Australia, has publicly apologised for the "distractions" that have affected the Liberal Party's efforts to represent Victorians. The MP posted a video on her Facebook page thanking supporters for their loyalty amid ongoing questions about her political future.

Deeming's preselection for the November state election was set to be revoked by the Liberal Party state executive after she refused to apologise to former Opposition Leader Matthew Guy. This followed Victoria Police dismissing her claim that Guy put her in a headlock. Documents released in court revealed Deeming sought to have four members of the state executive barred from ruling on her preselection due to alleged actual or perceived bias.

Taking her party to the Supreme Court, Deeming won a two-week reprieve. A one-day trial later this month will examine her allegations that the party's plans to remove her denied her procedural fairness, despite her being invited to address the party executive.

In her video, Deeming described the past years as "an emotional, confusing and exhausting few years," acknowledging the significant distractions that have taken away from her work for her constituents. She also stated, "The simple fact is that things go wrong in life and you have to just pick yourself up and keep going forward. That's what I intend to do."

Deeming also mentioned that the Supreme Court dispute over her preselection is currently being mediated behind the scenes. Footage appeared to show Matthew Guy placing his hand on Deeming's shoulder during a conversation at a crowded Macedonian event.
