On Tuesday, Democratic candidates competing for their party’s nomination for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat will participate in a debate hosted by WOOD TV8 in Grand Rapids.

Debate coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. EDT on WOOD TV+ and woodtv.com, with political reporter Rick Albin providing pre-debate analysis. The live, hourlong debate will start at 7 p.m. and air on WOOD TV8, partner stations statewide, WOOD TV+, and woodtv.com. Moderators for the event are Rick Albin and News 8 anchor Amber Krycka.

Following the debate at 8 p.m., News 8 anchor Brian Sterling will provide live coverage from the spin room on WOOD TV+ and woodtv.com, sharing candidates’ reactions.

The candidates qualified for the debate include Abdul El-Sayed, a former southeastern Michigan public health official from Ann Arbor who previously ran for governor. Mallory McMorrow had initially agreed to participate but announced the Sunday before the debate that she was ending her campaign.

The Senate seat is open as incumbent Democrat Gary Peters from Bloomfield Township is retiring after 12 years in office.

According to Emerson College Polling, El-Sayed is gaining more support among voters younger than 40, while McMorrow was performing better with voters over 50.
