A recent analysis highlights a stark contrast in patriotic sentiment between Republicans and Democrats in the United States. Combining Gallup’s “extremely proud” and “very proud” responses, 93 percent of Republicans report high pride in being American. In contrast, only 27 percent of Democrats express the same level of pride, marking a record low for the party.
Back in January 2001, when Gallup first asked the question, 92 percent of Republicans and 87 percent of Democrats called themselves proud to be American, indicating a significant shift over the past 25 years.
Additionally, a recent Elon University survey found that 55 percent of Democrats said “yes” when asked whether there is another country where they would rather live.
The report also notes that Jews, who make up about 2 percent of the U.S. population, were the target of 16 percent of all reported hate crimes and nearly 70 percent of religion-based hate crimes in 2024.
The analysis warns that if Democrats do not reclaim a commitment to capitalism, confront antisemitism, secure the border, and rekindle patriotism, the American experiment could face serious challenges sooner than expected.
Even public figures like Bill Maher have observed this trend, noting during the 2026 World Cup that foreign visitors reminded Americans of the country's unique qualities.
