Two days after President Donald Trump's Fourth of July speech, attendees at the Great American State Fair expressed to Fox News Digital that they perceived the address as patriotic and not partisan.
Thousands of Americans gathered on the National Mall to celebrate the United States' 250th anniversary, despite challenging weather conditions including sweltering heat and severe thunderstorms. President Trump delivered a 37-minute speech honoring veterans and the nation's founding, declaring that "no dream in history is bigger" than the American experiment and stating, "We don't want communists in our country," before a record-setting fireworks display.
David from New Jersey commented, "He's talking about taking down communism. If that's what he was talking about, I don't think that's political at all. It's just about the freedom that we have here. If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't be here."
Matt from Florida viewed the speech as a tribute to veterans and Medal of Honor recipients, despite some others disliking it. Ed and Linda from Ohio, who missed the speech while waiting for fireworks, expressed support for the president and emphasized the importance of rising above political opinions to enjoy the Fourth of July.
The Great American State Fair, backed by Freedom 250, features pavilions, live performances, military demonstrations, and exhibits celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary and runs through July 10th.
"I think there's an intricate part that politics play obviously in the 250 years that we have been a nation," one attendee noted, acknowledging the complex role of politics in American history.
