The inaugural Freedom Fuel Network gas station opened in Philadelphia, offering gasoline at $3.47 per gallon—33 cents below the current national average of $3.80, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). The White House noted the price honors President Donald Trump as the 47th U.S. leader.
However, gas prices remain higher than before the Iran conflict began. Two days prior to the announcement of Operation Epic Fury in February, the national average was $2.98 per gallon, AAA data shows. The roughly five-week closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the operation disrupted a critical global oil shipping route, through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes, tightening supply and driving up energy costs.
Currently, the Freedom Fuel Network comprises 25 stations, with the first opening in Philadelphia. A White House spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the administration is not involved with the company and has not provided any funding. The spokesperson added that no subsidies are involved; the company is simply reducing its margin to offer more affordable prices for drivers in Philadelphia and New Jersey.
