Senate candidate Graham Platner of Maine faces a second notable allegation of sexual impropriety just 24 hours after being accused of rape. The new claim, reported by The Washington Post, alleges that Platner removed condoms during sex with his ex-girlfriend, Lyndsey Fifield, despite her explicit requests to use them.
Fifield, 41, who previously accused Platner of physical misconduct—including grabbing her forcefully and restraining her—said, "I confronted him both during and after [sex] because he knew that I was not on birth control and how dangerous that was." These allegations were initially made off the record to The Post.
Platner's supporters have dismissed these concerns, labeling Fifield, a former Heritage Foundation employee, as a conservative operative. Platner himself has described the allegations as "categorically false and politically motivated."
The controversy has led to significant political fallout. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have withdrawn their endorsements and urged Platner to step aside as the Democratic nominee in Maine. Platner must withdraw by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, to allow the Democratic Party to select a replacement candidate before the November general election.
Platner has been active in the campaign trail, including events at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6859 in Portland, Maine, and a televised interview on May 1, 2026. The unfolding situation continues to draw national attention as the campaign deadline approaches.
