Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin has praised the extensive security operation surrounding the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing the strong cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Speaking at Seattle Stadium, Mullin described the collaboration as "amazing," noting that the operation is running smoothly even in traditionally blue cities like Seattle and Los Angeles.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Chief Correspondent Jonathan Hunt, Mullin said he does not expect to get a good night’s sleep until July 20, the day after the World Cup Final. He also acknowledged that while there may be disagreements on issues like immigration, protecting fans and their experience has united law enforcement across the country.
Millions of soccer fans from around the world are experiencing the United States for the first time during the tournament. Many had anticipated a high-profile militarized security presence due to media coverage of the Trump administration abroad. However, Mullin explained that much of the security work is conducted undercover or in the background, a deliberate strategy.
Mullin credited President Trump's vision during his administration for bringing the World Cup to the U.S. as part of the country’s 250th birthday celebrations. He also paid tribute to the fans, both domestic and international, for contributing to what many have called possibly the best World Cup experience ever.
Though Mullin admitted he was not initially familiar with soccer, he has embraced the sport and is committed to ensuring safety around the clock throughout the event.
