President Donald Trump stated on July 8 that he has no information regarding the health of Senator Mitch McConnell following the Kentucky Republican’s recent hospitalization. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I have no idea how he’s doing,” according to CNN’s Alayna Treene.

McConnell, 84, has not been seen or heard from publicly since entering the hospital on June 14. His office has declined to disclose the reason for his hospitalization, as reported by WHAS11. The senator’s team released a brief update on July 2 stating, “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,” according to NBC News.

Emergency crews reportedly responded to an unconscious person at McConnell’s residence on the day of his admission and performed CPR, though the patient was not officially named, Axios reported.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear urged McConnell to address his health status in a letter, noting that “Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the current state of your health and wellbeing, and ability to hold office in the United States Senate,” NBC News reported.

Despite his health challenges, including a 2023 concussion, several on-camera freezes, and an eight-day hospital stay in February for flu-like symptoms, McConnell remains the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history and plans to retire when his current term ends in January 2027.

In a message posted on X, Jennings recounted a nearly 20-minute conversation with McConnell covering topics such as Iran, Ukraine, and Senate history, expressing a desire to see the senator return to work soon.
