UK police have released a 26-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murdering Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative minister and UK MP. Widdecombe, aged 78, was found dead at her home after suffering serious injuries. Police were called to her address around midday on Thursday.

Devon and Cornwall Police stated that the man is "no longer part of the investigation" but confirmed that numerous enquiries are ongoing. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman emphasized that the priority remains identifying those responsible and thoroughly examining all available evidence. Road closures and forensic examinations continue at the scene of Widdecombe's house.

Ann Widdecombe served as a Conservative member of parliament from 1987 to 2010 and held several junior ministerial roles in former Prime Minister John Major's government. After leaving parliament, she appeared on the TV talent show Strictly Come Dancing in 2010.

The family of Miss Widdecombe has requested privacy as they come to terms with the incident.
