A massive fire broke out late Sunday night, July 12, 2026, at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar and restaurant on the outskirts of Bangkok, killing at least 27 people and injuring 63 others, including 22 in critical condition.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters the blaze spread rapidly and smoke was likely the main cause of death. Authorities found several victims near the fire exit and suspect obstructions may have blocked escape routes.
Laotian tourist Kan Kutirat, who was at the bar around 10:00 pm, reported noticing smoke near the stage and hearing loud screaming inside as patrons fled the scene. The smell of burned plastic lingered for hours after the fire.
Thai national police announced via social media around 2:00 am Monday (1900 GMT) that the fire had been brought under control. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site earlier and spoke with musicians present during the incident.
An AFP journalist at the scene early Monday observed several black body bags and numerous emergency workers.
This tragedy follows a similar incident in 2022 when 25 people died in a fire at the Mountain B nightclub in Thailand's eastern Chonburi province. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the current fire.
