On July 8th, 2026, Kibbutz Bror Hayil, located adjacent to the Gaza border, hosted a full-scale terror attack drill simulating an infiltration like the October 7, 2025 attack, where thousands of Hamas-led Palestinians invaded Israel and killed approximately 1,200 people. The exercise, observed by Fox News Digital and filmed by Amelie Botbol, was the eighth training session conducted by Magen48 in partnership with the Israel Defense Forces. It involved the kibbutz's local civilian defense squad preparing for scenarios including terrorists infiltrating the kibbutz kindergarten.
During the drill, a simulated grenade explosion injured one squad member, while others successfully neutralized the attackers. Magen48 instructor T., who withheld his full name for security reasons, acknowledged that the Bror Hayil program initially faced significant challenges. He emphasized that training now focuses on ensuring squad members locate each other before engaging, addressing a key lesson from the October 7 attack where many civilian responders acted alone.
Richard Kemp, an observer of the exercises, stated the primary goal is to prevent another attack like October 7. He highlighted that strong, well-trained civilian response teams not only improve security but also help rebuild community resilience and ensure a positive future for these towns. Reports after October 7 noted that civilian first responders were extremely brave but lacked adequate training and equipment.
Additionally, Israel is fortifying its border with Jordan as Iran seeks new terror pathways, underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by the country.
