The Ukrainian parliament accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Monday, July 14th, 2026, following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's announcement over the weekend that he planned to reshuffle his cabinet and requested her to step aside.

In her farewell speech, Svyrydenko said, "Every day this year demanded difficult decisions and decisive action. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support I received. You also ​know that I have always believed results matter most."

Zelenskyy wrote on X that he had discussed the matter with Svyrydenko and they concluded that "a reshuffle of the Cabinet is necessary."

While Zelenskyy did not disclose who would replace Svyrydenko, the Kyiv Independent reported, citing unnamed sources, that Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company, Naftogaz, could be the successor.

Zelenskyy also mentioned that Svyrydenko had been offered the opportunity to lead "a new and important area of relations with a key partner." Ukrainian media speculated she might be appointed as Ukraine's next ambassador to the United States, but this has not been confirmed.

Svyrydenko, who previously served as economy minister, was appointed prime minister in July 2025 at the age of 39 after playing a leading role in securing a mineral agreement between Ukraine and the United States, an agreement seen as crucial for tying US interests to Ukraine's security.

Following the resignation, Taras Kachka, Ukraine's deputy prime minister for European integration, stated that the government changes should not affect Ukraine's European Union integration plans. Speaking in Brussels ahead of the formal opening of a second chapter of accession negotiations covering external relations, Kachka said, "This is an unconditional priority for Ukrainian government so that the negotiations will go, and as well as a reform process."
