A 14-year-old boy has been charged by British police with a terrorism-related offense over an alleged plot to target mosques in London. The Metropolitan Police revealed on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, that the unnamed suspect is accused of "preparation of terrorist acts" connected to right-wing extremist ideology.

The boy was initially arrested on July 9 for criminal damage to a car. Subsequent searches uncovered documents that led to the terrorism charge, described by police as "conduct in preparation for giving effect to an intention to conduct acts of terrorism."

Helen Flanagan, head of counterterrorism policing in London, called the charge "very serious" and acknowledged it would be concerning to the public and local community. Police do not believe the case indicates a wider threat but have reached out to the mosques in south London’s Sutton area, offering advice and support.

Flanagan emphasized the particular concern this case raises within the Muslim community and assured that authorities are working closely with affected venues to provide ongoing updates, advice, and reassurance.

This incident follows other recent security concerns in the UK, including arrests related to right-wing threats and the targeted attack on UK politician Ann Widdecombe.
