SINGAPORE — A total of 35 schools were oversubscribed in Phase 2A of the Primary 1 registration exercise this year, marking a decrease from last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Applications for Phase 2A opened at 9 a.m. on July 9 and closed at 4:30 p.m. on July 10. Despite the MOE cutting the Primary 1 intake for most schools earlier this year, fewer schools experienced oversubscription in this phase.

The most oversubscribed school was Red Swastika School in Bedok, which received 88 applications for 24 available spaces. Following closely were Princess Elizabeth Primary School in Bukit Batok with 137 applicants for 47 spaces, and Shuqun Primary School in Jurong West with 93 applicants for 32 spaces.

One school, Canossa Catholic Primary, did not admit any students in Phase 2A. The school has a total of 120 spaces, with 61 students admitted in Phase 1, which is reserved for applicants with siblings currently enrolled. Consequently, Canossa Catholic Primary has 59 spaces remaining for Phases 2B and 2C, with no availability in Phase 2A.

According to MOE data released last week, there were 867 fewer spots available in Phase 2A across all primary schools compared to 2025. Phase 2B is designated for parents who have volunteered at the primary school by July 1 of the year preceding Primary 1 registration.

According to MOE’s website, all eligible Phase 1 applicants are guaranteed a place in the school they applied to.
