Major heat warnings are in effect across large parts of the United States this week due to an unusual weather pattern causing record high temperatures. On Sunday, July 13th, 2026, Billings, Montana, recorded its hottest day ever at 111°F (43.9°C). Salt Lake City, Utah, also experienced an all-time record high temperature of 109°F on the same day.

In addition to the heat, warnings about dangerous and unhealthy air quality have been issued from Minnesota to New York. These warnings coincide with ongoing wildfires near Toronto, Canada, which are contributing to poor air conditions in the region.

Boston has also experienced more days with temperatures above 90°F than usual this summer, according to NPR station WBUR-FM.

These conditions highlight the widespread impact of the heat dome affecting much of the US and neighboring areas.
