Japan's ambitious maglev train project, the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, which promises to connect Tokyo and Nagoya in as little as 40 minutes—less than half the time of the current fastest bullet train—is moving forward again after receiving key local construction approvals. However, municipalities along the planned route are pressing for a clearer timeline on when the project will be completed and start delivering economic benefits, following over a decade of delays. Additional postponements remain likely despite the recent progress.

The project is managed by Central Japan Railway and represents a significant advancement in high-speed rail technology in Japan.
