The strikes set a warehouse in the Sviatoshynskyi district and a non-residential building in the Darnytskyi district on fire, with falling debris causing additional damage in nearby areas such as Darnytsia.

Firefighters battled large blazes overnight, working through debris and collapsed structures to extinguish flames and search for survivors. Footage from the scene showed emergency crews responding amid sirens and thick smoke.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that emergency services were actively combating fires across the capital. Ukraine’s Air Force Command later confirmed that the immediate threat had been lifted after about one hour.

The missile attack came just hours after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv to announce a new drone agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. The deal aims to combine Ukraine’s battlefield expertise with the EU’s industrial capacity to scale up drone production rapidly. Von der Leyen emphasized the importance of "combining our strengths" to bring together "Ukrainian ingenuity and Europe’s industrial scale" during a ceremony marking Ukraine’s Statehood Day.

Earlier in the week, Ukrainian regional officials reported that Russian bombardments across the country killed 13 people and injured around 50 others. Additionally, the United Nations stated that at least 293 civilians were killed across Ukraine in June 2026, marking the highest monthly death toll in over four years, with long-range missiles and drones responsible for nearly half of the casualties.
