More than 500 people are feared dead after reports emerged of boats capsizing off the coast of Myanmar. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), two boats carrying mostly Rohingya passengers departed from Rakhine State in late June.

The incident highlights the ongoing peril faced by Rohingya attempting to flee Myanmar by sea. Details remain limited as rescue and recovery efforts continue.
