Fetterman, who has become one of the most prominent Senate Democratic advocates for Israel, expressed concern that the party might "back away and turn their back to Israel." He referenced recent primary victories by candidates opposing aid to Israel and said, "I've described that if our party ever becomes … the anti-Israel party, you know, that's when I would leave."

Although some Republicans have tried to persuade him to switch parties, Fetterman said he disagrees with most GOP policies and has no interest in changing his affiliation unless the Democratic Party shifts its stance on Israel. "I am never changing my party, except for that one condition that we just discussed," he said.

The House vote represented a significant rebuke of U.S. policy toward Israel, with some longtime supporters of defense assistance stating they could no longer justify sending weapons. Former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who voted in favor of the measure, said, "The American people are rightly demanding an end to a perpetual cycle of war, and the Netanyahu government cannot maintain its current course."

Earlier in April, a majority of Democratic senators supported efforts led by independent Senator Bernie Sanders to block the sale of bombs and bulldozers to Israel.
