Russian and Ukrainian strikes on Friday, July 17, 2026, killed at least 10 people across both sides of the border, local officials said.

In Ukraine, two people were killed and eight wounded when a missile hit a residential building in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, according to deputy mayor Oleksandr Filatov. The attack also damaged residential buildings, a religious institution, a pre-school facility, vehicles, and other civilian infrastructure. Emergency services reported that children present during the attack survived and are receiving necessary assistance.

Further south in the frontline city of Kherson, a 70-year-old woman was killed and five other elderly individuals were wounded in Russian attacks, the city's military administration said.

On the Russian side, two people were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on a freeway in one of the Russian-occupied parts of the Kherson region, according to Vladimir Vasilenko, the Moscow-appointed governor there.

Russia stated that it targeted military infrastructure, while Ukraine reported damage to homes, ports, and other civilian areas. A photograph from the town of Gorlivka in the Donetsk region, Russian-controlled Ukraine, showed a heavily damaged confectionery factory following a recent attack.

According to the United Nations, June 2026 was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, with at least 293 people killed.
