The White House published these documents on a new “election integrity” page, which included intelligence assessments, declassified FBI files, and details of China’s alleged acquisition of voter data. However, these records did not substantiate claims that foreign governments altered or interfered with the outcome of the 2020 election, in which Trump was defeated by former President Biden. This prompted immediate backlash from Beijing, election experts, and Democrats.

China dismissed the allegations as “groundless” and “entirely fabricated,” with Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stating on Friday, “We have no interest in interfering in US elections and have never done so.”

Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) expressed embarrassment over what he described as “a whole series of falsehoods” aimed at undermining Americans’ faith in the electoral system.
