An intergovernmental mediation body based in Hong Kong, the International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed), has successfully resolved at least one more dispute following a prior case involving parties from Singapore and mainland China. The organisation's reach now extends to 46 signatory and 16 contracting states.

Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, secretary general of IOMed, stated on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, that despite encountering parties with "a certain attitude" due to geopolitical concerns, the organisation has persistently explained its role. She noted that after clear explanations, governments, corporations, and professional groups generally accept mediation regardless of their political stances or nationalities.

The China-led IOMed, the world's first intergovernmental body dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation, was officially inaugurated in Hong Kong in October 2025 after the convention establishing the institution was signed in May 2025.

Cheng also shared that her team has visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Morocco, and Serbia, and plans to travel to Austria, France, and the United States to further explain IOMed's work.
