Official support and collaboration with private capital are essential for sovereign wealth funds to succeed, according to Clara Chan Ka-chai, CEO of Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKIC). Speaking at the inaugural Nusa Dua Forum in Bali on Friday, July 17th, 2026, Chan highlighted that partnerships have been key to HKIC's strong performance.
At the forum, organized by the South China Morning Post and Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara, Chan stated, “For every dollar we invest, we bring in more than eight from international patient capital such as sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and universities.”
The event gathered 120 participants, including Indonesian and Hong Kong officials, sovereign fund operators, family office leaders, and institutional investors, as Bali aims to become a global financial center.
HKIC recently announced that it generated about HK$6.46 billion (US$824 million) in investment income in 2025, marking a 175 percent year-on-year increase. Chan underscored that official support combined with private capital collaboration is critical to delivering such high returns.
She shared the panel discussion stage with Blue Pool Capital CEO Oliver Weisberg, moderated by South China Morning Post publisher Tammy Tam.
