Russian forces launched one of their largest ballistic missile barrages on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, overnight into Sunday, July 19th, 2026, killing one person and injuring at least 13 others. The attack involved 41 missiles of various types and 125 attack drones, according to the Ukrainian air force.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage to residential buildings, warehouses, a supermarket, a dormitory, and other structures across six districts, with three people in serious condition. The assault began around 1:30 a.m. local time and continued for several hours. Kyiv's military stated it shot down 18 missiles during the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strikes as "one of the most massive ballistic attacks on Kyiv" since the start of the full-scale invasion. He emphasized that "protection against ballistic missiles is our constant and top priority right now," and noted a recent political agreement with the US on licenses to produce Patriot missile interceptors.

The missile attack followed a deadly wave of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting e-commerce warehouses in the Moscow and Tambov regions, which Zelenskyy said were in response to Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. More than 370 drones were launched toward the Moscow region overnight, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

In addition to Kyiv, Russian drone strikes killed one person in the Dnipropetrovsk region near the frontline, as reported by regional official Oleksandr Ganzha.

AFP journalists in Kyiv reported hearing powerful explosions that set off car alarms in the city center shortly after the Ukrainian air force warned residents via Telegram about incoming ballistic missiles.

The latest attacks underscore the ongoing intense conflict, with Ukraine facing almost daily Russian assaults while also conducting its own operations deep inside Russian territory.
