Warner stated, "There are so many absurdities and falsehoods in Trump’s Thursday night speech, and I’m glad that most media treated it not as serious news. And I know some folks at your network — the journalists, I have huge respect for."

President Trump’s address on Thursday evening attempted to portray the state of U.S. election security as unjustifiable. He pressed for controversial legislation he supports and sought to convince Americans to accept unfounded allegations regarding the 2020 presidential election. Trump discussed the release of multiple documents which he claimed "reveal an election system so broken and so vulnerable that no one can possibly defend it," though there was not a single new revelation in the speech.

John Fetterman (D-Pa.), known for occasionally breaking with his party, commented on Sunday that Trump could "do something positive" instead of revisiting the 2020 election.

In response to criticism, CBS News referenced comments made by correspondent Tony Dokoupil before the speech, acknowledging the debate over airing the address. Dokoupil said, "There is an argument that it’s irresponsible to air the president’s speech tonight.
