Former Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim resigned from his political roles on Monday, July 20, 2026, after his interactions with a woman were found to have “fallen short” of the standards required of a political office holder.

In a Facebook post, Faishal Ibrahim expressed his deep regret, saying, "I am deeply sorry to have let down my residents and supporters, who placed their trust in me." He also thanked residents for their support over the years, describing it as a privilege to serve them and stating, “Your warmth, friendship and support mean more to me than I can ever express.”

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the resignation, noting that the interactions between Faishal and the woman also occurred on the sidelines of public events. Faishal clarified there was no physical relationship and that he did not intend for the interactions to develop into one. He acknowledged a lapse in judgment in how he handled the situation and in failing to establish clearer boundaries earlier.

Faishal said he would be spending more time with his family and expressed gratitude for their support, especially his wife, who has stood by him during this difficult period. He also requested understanding for his decision not to disclose further details, out of respect for his family's privacy.

Faishal Ibrahim resigned as a Member of Parliament and as a member of the People’s Action Party (PAP).
