President Trump announced on Sunday, July 20, 2026, that Giant Eagle, a regional grocery chain described as a GREAT American Grocery Company, will lower prices on over 300 products throughout the summer, continuing through Labor Day. The price reductions aim to assist hardworking American families facing rising costs.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “Giant Eagle, like Walmart, is stepping up in a big and bold way to answer my call to lower costs for working families.” He urged other grocery chains to follow the example set by Giant Eagle and Walmart.

On July 9, Giant Eagle began lowering prices on various products, including beef and American cheese, with the goal of enhancing value perception for customers. These efforts build on a seasonal initiative started last fall.

Earlier in July, Walmart and Sam’s Club announced nationwide price cuts on thousands of grocery items, including popular foods such as ground beef, produce, snacks, and soft drinks.

The price reduction initiatives come amid broader concerns about affordability in the United States. A recent Harris Poll survey found that 95 percent of Americans believe the country is experiencing an affordability crisis.

Additionally, Kroger announced on July 1, 2026, its plan to acquire Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion, with the transaction expected to close in 2027 pending regulatory approval.
