Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) publicly criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Saturday, July 20, 2026, for his social media tribute to two U.S. service members killed in Jordan due to Iranian strikes. Hegseth had posted on platform X, "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve."

Greene responded that it was inappropriate to call their deaths a "sacrifice," stating, "Sacrifice?? What the f— are you talking about?? They did not willingly sacrifice themselves. They were killed because of the war you, Trump, and the admin, are waging on behalf of a FOREIGN COUNTRY, Israel."

She further accused the administration of using the deaths to fuel "bloodlust for a senseless war."

According to The Associated Press, 17 U.S. service members have died as a result of the ongoing conflict.

Vice President Vance also commented on the situation, noting that some members of the Israeli government "hate" the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran aimed at establishing a temporary ceasefire. During an appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Vance said, "There are some people within their system, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt, who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely."

He added, "I cannot believe this is where we are after all the America First promises were made in 2024."
