Second Lady Usha Vance gave birth to her fourth child on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, Vice President JD Vance announced on X. The baby boy, named Alec Neel Vance, was born healthy, and both Usha and the newborn are reported to be happy and well. Their three other children, ages 4, 6, and 9, are excited to meet their new little brother.

At 40 years old, Usha Vance is the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband serves as vice president. The couple had announced the pregnancy in January, with a due date in late July.

Earlier this year, while promoting his new book, JD Vance indicated he was unlikely to take parental leave after the baby's arrival. In March, at a White House event in Michigan, he shared that he had to persuade Usha to have another child. Vance recalled telling his wife, "Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid," to which she replied, "Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby." He added, "But, ladies and gentlemen, I am persuasive, because I got both."

Usha later confirmed in an interview with NBC News that she had never completely ruled out having another child and that over time, she grew increasingly excited about the possibility.
