Intensified Israeli military attacks in Gaza have resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, with 57 Palestinians killed in the past week alone, pushing the total death toll above 1,100 since the October 2025 ceasefire. The violence includes an Israeli drone strike that killed seven people near the Nuseirat refugee camp and an incident where a teacher was reportedly shot while working in a temporary learning space west of Khan Younis.

Palestinians remain trapped in a shrinking area as Israel continues shifting the so-called “yellow line” westward, with many killings reported far from this boundary. Meanwhile, settler violence in the West Bank has surged sharply, now accounting for 55% of Palestinian injuries in the region in 2026, increasing from one attack every three days in 2020 to over three attacks per day this year.

The UN Spokesperson condemned all killings of civilians, emphasizing that under international humanitarian law, civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected. Thameen Al-Kheetan, representing the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), stated at a Geneva press conference that the entire Gaza Strip remains under Israeli occupation and called for respect for Palestinian human rights, an end to the occupation, and the implementation of a fair, durable two-State solution.

Continued Israeli military operations, new displacements, and deteriorating access have further limited humanitarian assistance and heightened protection concerns across Gaza, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Despite the challenges, partners have supported 435,000 pre-primary and school-aged children, including approximately 9,300 children with disabilities, by providing access to structured learning through 610 temporary learning spaces during the first half of 2026.

The UN chief and top officials have condemned the killings amid the surge in violence, while aid agencies continue efforts to assist Palestinians affected by the escalating conflict.
