A decade after their highly publicized divorce began, Angelina Jolie has reportedly achieved a "complete cutting of ties" with ex-husband Brad Pitt, according to family law expert Holly Davis, cofounder of Kirker Davis LLP.

With the couple's youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turning 18 on July 12, custody issues are no longer under court jurisdiction. This milestone has effectively severed the last legal connection between Jolie and Pitt, granting Jolie freedoms previously restricted by court oversight.

"For those that followed the Pitt/Jolie divorce since 2016, it should be no surprise that Angelina Jolie is finally able to achieve what she attempted to get in the 2016 divorce — a complete cutting of ties between the children and Brad Pitt," Davis told Fox News Digital.

Jolie's daughter Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to legally remove "Pitt" from her surname, changing it to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The petition cites "personal" reasons and was filed just over a week after Vivienne turned 18. A hearing is scheduled for November 2. Two years prior, Vivienne was involved in a Broadway play.

The family attorney also commented on the children's estrangement from their father, stating, "Whether or not she influenced them in hating their father based on the legitimate problems in her romantic relationship with Brad, or whether they all suffered similar difficult moments as a family which lead to their decision to no longer see him, will be anyone's guess."

This development marks the conclusion of a lengthy legal process initiated by Jolie's 2016 divorce filing, culminating in the full legal separation of the children from Brad Pitt.
