Rebel Wilson has been cleared by a Sydney court of defamation accusations brought by Australian actress Charlotte MacInnes. MacInnes, who appeared in Wilson's film The Deb, filed the lawsuit over Instagram posts made by Wilson in 2024 and 2025. In these posts, Wilson accused MacInnes of retracting a sexual harassment complaint against a film producer to advance her career, a claim MacInnes denied.

The case centered on an incident in September 2023 when MacInnes went swimming at Bondi Beach with Amanda Ghost, a producer of Wilson's film. Ghost experienced an allergic reaction to the cold water, leading the pair to return to Ghost's rented luxury apartment. MacInnes entered the bath to warm up, with Ghost joining her shortly after.

During the three-week trial earlier in 2026, Wilson stated that MacInnes told her the day after the bath incident, "Amanda asked me to have a bath and shower with her and it made me feel uncomfortable."

On Wednesday, Justice Elizabeth Raper dismissed the case, ruling that the suggestion MacInnes had changed her story was not defamatory. Following the decision, Wilson posted on Instagram, saying the "process has taught me a lot" and expressed gratitude that "this chapter has reached its conclusion."

Wilson also remarked, "It has tested me, but it has also reinforced something I've always believed. I want to live my life standing up for what I believe is right, while continuing to create work that brings people joy."

She further acknowledged "the Australian legal system who I have the utmost respect for."
