Senator Tim Sheehy highlighted that the NDAA traditionally garners bipartisan support as Congress funds the military and reinforces America's commitment to peace through strength. However, Section 1217 has recently become the target of a misinformation campaign fueled by rising antisemitism and domestic hostility toward American global influence.

According to critics described as "groypers and far-left socialists," Section 1217 allegedly "merges" the U.S. military with Israel's, places American troops under foreign command, and subordinates U.S. national security to another country's interests. Senator Sheehy and the NDAA's provisions clarify that neither the United States nor Israel has any interest in merging military commands, as it would reduce effectiveness for both nations.

The cooperation initiative is intended to strengthen America's military capabilities and enhance the safety of American troops. This development follows ongoing defense collaboration between the two countries, exemplified by a December 29, 2025, press conference held by President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
