SINGAPORENay Chi Khaing Zaw, 25, lives with multiple chronic conditions that cause her persistent pain and frequent health disruptions. On the morning she was to sell her art at a market, she experienced a seizure in a cab en route to the venue, a condition she says “happens from time to time.” Despite the agony and risk, she pressed on to avoid losing the S$60 rental fee for her booth.

Her daily routine involves managing pain with medication, therapeutic putty for her joints, liquid formula for days when solid food is intolerable, and sunglasses to shield against migraine triggers like bright light, strong smells, and loud sounds. Although she desires to participate in more art markets, she often lacks the physical strength and stamina required, especially considering outdoor heat and the effort needed to transport and set up her booth.

Nay Chi’s chronic conditions have also impacted her studies, work, and personal relationships, influencing everyday decisions that many Singaporeans might take for granted. She is additionally concerned about the risks associated with long flights, such as blood pooling in her legs during a 24-hour journey.

Her story is featured in the program On The Red Dot, highlighting her fight to do more than just "trying to survive."
