Travis Vokolek, tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, announced his retirement from professional football at age 28 following a severe neck injury sustained during a game against the Indianapolis Colts. The injury occurred on a kickoff block when Vokolek landed awkwardly after contact with a Colts player.

In a social media post, Vokolek stated, "After numerous visits with doctors and neurologists over the past couple of months, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury that I suffered this past season."

Reflecting on his career, Vokolek expressed gratitude: "I am extremely grateful and blessed to have been able to live out my childhood dream of playing football at the highest level for the past three years. Football has taught me many life lessons and given me unforgettable memories."

He also thanked the Arizona Cardinals training staff for their support during this difficult time. Vokolek played college football at Rutgers and Nebraska before turning professional.

The injury and subsequent retirement mark a premature end to Vokolek's NFL career, which included appearances at venues such as State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
