In China, many women heartbroken over breakups are investing thousands of yuan in services that claim to help them win back former lovers. These services typically advise clients to avoid any contact with their ex-partners initially.

A 28-year-old woman, who uses the pseudonym Wan, shared that she paid a relationship coach 3,500 yuan (approximately US$500) for a month of round-the-clock coaching aimed at rekindling her relationship with an ex-boyfriend who recently ended their relationship. The coaching began with a free 90-minute phone call, during which the coach concluded that the breakup was not due to a lack of love from her ex but rather Wan's insecurity, which had put pressure on him.

The coach suggested that Wan's insecurity stemmed from feeling unloved by her parents. Wan was offered a one-month plan that involved no contact with her ex for the first 21 days, guidance on changing her appearance, and training on conversation topics designed to maintain her ex's interest. She was also advised to post on social media to demonstrate personal improvement.

The coach claimed that the success rate of such plans could reach 90 percent if strictly followed. However, Wan reported that despite adhering to the plan, her ex ultimately blocked her on a chat application.

These services can cost up to US$3,000, attracting many women desperate to restore their relationships, though results appear mixed.
