Laura Loomer, a far-right American activist and known ally of former US President Donald Trump, met and interviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, July 24, 2026, marking a reversal in her previous hostile stance toward Ukraine.
Loomer conducted the interview for her show on the social media platform Rumble. Prior to the meeting, she acknowledged to her nearly 2 million followers on X that she had been wrong to repeat Russian propaganda. She stated that she does not care if Republicans who oppose Ukraine disavow her, asserting in a social media post that “They will come to see how evil Russia is as they continue funding Iran with weapons to murder US soldiers as they call for President Trump to be assassinated.”
In April 2026, Loomer reported to the US State Department an Iranian national alleged to be the niece of the late Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, which led to the revocation of the woman’s US residency.
Loomer has also been noted for her anti-Muslim rhetoric, particularly after two gunmen killed three people at a mosque in San Diego in May 2026. Following the attack, she called for immigration authorities to investigate the targeted Islamic center.
This meeting comes amid ongoing discussions involving US and Russian diplomats about the Ukraine war, and at a time when Trump and parts of his political base have expressed skepticism about US support for Ukraine.
